It's no secret that I love white jeans. There is just something about them that is so crisp and clean, and I love that they have a dressier feel than a blue jean. Although I'm one to wear my white denim all year long, with spring arriving now is a perfect time to add a new pair to wardrobe.
What many of you may not know, is that before I became a stay at home mom and fashion blogger, I worked retail for the past thirteen years, mostly selling designer denim. Lets just say I learned a thing or two about denim, and today I'm sharing some tips when buying white jeans, plus some of my favorite white styles.
Tips
1. Purchase your white jeans early in the season. Most retailers get their shipment of white jeans between March and May, and don't replenish them past June. Since finding that perfect fitting white can be harder than a blue jean, shop for them while sizes are stocked. Past June the inventory starts to get low.
2. Wear nude underwear when shopping for white jeans. A lot of whites may be see through, and you want to make sure that the pair you select isn't! With all of my white jeans, you can see my dark colored underwear through them, but my nude underwear works perfectly. If you can see nude underwear underneath your whites, then you may want to skip on that pair.
3. Don't buy white jeans too tight. Working retail, I would always convince my customers to purchase their jeans a half of a size too tight since most jeans stretch out. However, since white tends to show off more curves, tight is not a good thing. Purchase them fitting perfectly, especially since you'll be washing your whites more often.
4. Have the front pockets removed and sewn closed. There is nothing worse then seeing the pockets show through your jeans, not to mention added bulk. A lot of white denim now comes with faux front pockets, but if the pair you love doesn't, just have a seamstress remove them, as it's a very easy alter.

Below are some of my favorite white denim picks. For a basic skinny jean I love the AG Stilt, and Paige makes a very flattering pair. DL1961 is a great option for whites. Their denim is a little heavier in weight, so you never have an issue with them being sheer, and the denim holds its shape very well. The Angel is a great option for an ankle length, which also isn't too skinny, and if you have some curves, the Coco is a great fit. I've been wanting to add a distressed pair to my wardrobe, and these Topshop whites are next on my list. They are a great under $100 option, plus I love that they are a high rise (this pair is are available without the rips). A flare style is very flattering, and the J Brand Love Story are my favorite.
Please email me or leave a comment if you have any other questions about white jeans. I wish everyone a great Wednesday, it's 70 degrees here today! Thank you for stopping by.

Oooh, love the Paige and J Brand jeans on you! I love DL1961! Those are some fabulous jeans. It took me forever to find a pair of white jeans that I liked for exactly the reasons you talk about (seeing through them, limiting underwear choices, and the pockets), but found a pair of Henry & Belles that are a little thicker than most, so you can't see through them, but none of the stretch and comfort is lost. I want to check out the Paige jeans too. Thank you for sharing these great tips and jeans, Rachael!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about trying some white jeans! Thanks for the tips! :)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely going to sew up my front pockets!
ReplyDeleteOh having the front pockets removed is such a great idea! I always struggle with pockets showing through white jeans, but never even thought to have them taken out!

I still have yet to buy white denim jeans for myself. I am so clumsy, I am always cautious when I wear them. but they're also a classic staple, so they're a must-have and as you've shown here, so versatile.

These are all great looks!! I've struggled to find a pair that's not super sheer or I would feel comfortable wearing out.

You have styled each pair of the white denim flawlessly. I especially love the first and third outfits above. I agree 100% with the 2nd and 3rd rule and follow them. Great tip (I did not know about) regarding the pockets. I want a slightly distressed new pair of white skinnies, now.
